My name is John Rusin, and I truly believe that gyms are essential to the health of our society as a whole…
Now you may be thinking, “John, the gym doesn’t matter, you can exercise ANYWHERE!!” And yes, you may be right.
But if exercise was so accessible and easily attainable to ALL people WITHOUT a gym, why have basically every health metric trackable in the research dropped significantly in the last year?
Because health is more than just exercise.
Long term health is predicated on habits, and environmental influence is a major predictor of success both in the short and long term.
You know what the other major influencer of behavior change is? Your community culture, and the people who you choose to spend time with. This is where the gym comes in…
As PPSC Coaches, our training facilities are more than just machines and bars, they are places of comfort, community and creating relationships.
They are a place where people seek out support, learn about their bodies, develop relationships with coaches, staff and other clients/members.
And they are our best opportunity to have positive influence over people’s routine lifestyle choices multiple times a week forever.
So yeah, it’s more than just a place to exercise. For many, it’s the THIRD place they frequent (behind home and work) as a stronghold affecting the very way they live.
In my opinion, the better prepared our fitness professionals become in delivering experiential community and empowering culture INSIDE of gyms, the more essential they will become.
As we are the providers of true HEALTH care. We simply need to prove it to the rest of the world with results in improving mental and physical health metrics that simply cannot be overlooked.
Has anyone else seen this argument against gyms?
What are you doing to create holistic health culture?
Any major road blocks you or your clients are experiencing?
Lets hear it, as many of us in the PPSC Coaches group are still experiencing gym closures and strict mandates keeping us away from running our businesses and helping our people.

April 29, 2021 at 6:18 amWe are so fortunate that the more strict lockdowns and what not impacted us but not at the level of many other areas. We’ve grown. And much of it is that people do realize they have to take responsibility for their own health and well-being because nobody’s going to save them. However, we have had to have conversations as much on the other end of it as well, defending ourselves for our position that we provide essential relationships, education, exactly what’s needed in these times. So we have both sides of it that we have to balance now..
Those of us in the fitness industry that are truly in this to help others are going to have to leave this charge. Our so-called leader ship it’s not going to do that. I’m glad that we have such a great support system with PPSC in this network so we can do just that.
